Our Story

In the late 1990s, families and community leaders in the MacArthur Park/Pico Union area of Los Angeles banded together under the stewardship of community-based organization Pueblo Nuevo Development (PND) to change the landscape of education in their community. Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) was born out of this community’s commitment to bring quality education to children in this area. Through our innovative partnership with PND, CNCA was established in 2000 as a charter school distinguished by a college preparatory focus, a project- and place-based approach to learning, an emphasis on technology, and a strong professional development program for teachers.

A Dynamic Learning Community

Located in an urban neighborhood faced with low literacy rates and high unemployment, CNCA has created a dynamic learning community committed to inspiring students to achieve their academic goals and ultimately make a positive difference in the world.

College Ready and College Bound

We are a growing network of schools serving more than 1,500 students. Camino Nuevo High School ranks in the top 10 of Los Angeles Unified School District high schools, and each charter school boasts exceptional student achievement scores. CNCA provides a college preparatory curriculum for all students. Beginning at the elementary and middle school levels, students develop research-based presentations on various colleges and participate in campus visits and tours. At Camino Nuevo High School students are able to take honors and college-level courses and all students take courses meeting the University of California and California State University admission requirements. The goal is to ensure that all of our students are College Ready, College Bound.

Partners for Success

We continue to partner with both our local community as well as leading philanthropic organizations and government agencies to prepare our students for college success and civic leadership.
