Dear Camino Nuevo Family,
Yesterday, 19 children and 2 adults lost their lives in a horrific school shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas. Even today, the extent of the attack is still unfolding. When I learn about the continued shootings at schools, I react not only as an educator but also as a parent. I cannot imagine the grief that the parents of these victims are feeling at this moment. I also cannot fathom the fear that has now been instilled in the survivors close to this tragedy. I know I am not alone.
The students who lost their lives were elementary school aged and had their entire lives ahead of them. They were likely planning for summer camp or summer school just like our own students. The teachers who were victims in the shooting were educators who had dedicated their life to helping students learn and grow so that they could fulfill their own dreams and that of their families. I see these kids as our kids and these educators as one of us.
We have experienced this type of tragedy over and over again. I share in the collective anger and grief not only for our schools but also for our country. We must come together to take action that will protect our students and staff from these types of attacks. The safety and wellbeing of our community is of utmost importance.
I write to you today to inform you that, as an organization, we at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy are collaborating with Children's Institute to pursue funding for training to prevent school violence. While this may come in the future, we must act now! Please join me in supporting and getting involved with the organizations below who are working to stop gun violence.
I know that all of you are also feeling the impact of this tragedy. Camino has always been a place of safety and healing. Please know that we will continue to remain a strong familia through this challenging time. As your Principal shared, our staff and school counselors are ready to monitor and answer any questions students may have about the tragedy. We have shared a variety of resources to support our staff with talking about such a difficult tragedy.

Estimadas Familias Camino Nuevo,
Ayer, 19 niños y 2 adultos perdieron la vida en un horrible tiroteo en la escuela Robb Elementary en Uvalde, Texas. Incluso hoy en día, el efecto del ataque sigue desarrollándose. Cuando me entero de los continuos tiroteos en las escuelas, no solo reacciono como educadora sino también como madre. No puedo imaginar el dolor que los padres y familias de estas víctimas están sintiendo en este momento. Tampoco puedo comprender el miedo que ahora se ha inculcado en los sobrevivientes cercanos a esta tragedia. Sé que no estoy sola.
Los estudiantes que perdieron la vida estaban en edad de asistir a la escuela primaria y tenían toda la vida por delante. Probablemente estaban planeando un campamento de verano o una escuela de verano al igual que nuestros propios estudiantes. Los maestros víctimas del tiroteo eran educadores que habían dedicado su vida a ayudar a los estudiantes a aprender y crecer para que pudieran cumplir sus propios sueños y los de sus familias. Veo a estos niños como nuestros niños y a estos educadores como uno de nosotros.
Hemos visto este tipo de tragedia una y otra vez. Comparto la ira y el dolor colectivos no solo por nuestras escuelas sino también por nuestro país. Debemos unirnos para tomar medidas que protejan a nuestros estudiantes y personal de este tipo de ataques. La seguridad y el bienestar de nuestra comunidad es de suma importancia.
Le escribo hoy para informarle que, como organización, en Camino Nuevo Charter Academy estamos colaborando con Children's Institute para buscar fondos para capacitación para prevenir la violencia escolar. Si bien esto puede suceder en el futuro, ¡debemos actuar ahora! Únase a mí para apoyar e involucrarse con las siguientes organizaciones que trabajan para detener la violencia armada.
Sé que todos ustedes también están sintiendo el impacto de esta tragedia al ingresar a nuestros campus escolares. Camino Nuevo siempre ha sido un lugar de seguridad y comunidad. Tenga en cuenta que seguiremos siendo una familia fuerte durante este momento difícil. Como compartió su director/a, nuestro personal y los consejeros escolares estarán listos para monitorear y responder cualquier pregunta que los estudiantes puedan tener sobre la tragedia. Hemos compartido una variedad de recursos para ayudar a nuestro personal a hablar sobre una tragedia tan difícil.
