Dear Camino Nuevo Familia,
We are writing to inform you that due to the ongoing fires and the poor air quality surrounding our campuses, we are keeping campuses closed tomorrow, January 9, 2025. The safety of our students, families, and staff remains our highest priority. While LAUSD has published a new list of school closures and our schools are not listed, many of our neighboring schools are - and we believe that keeping schools closed in alignment with our neighbors is the right decision.
As we navigate through these uncertain challenges, we want to ensure that everyone has the time and resources they need in order to stay safe. We want to also acknowledge the difficulty this may cause for some families. Please know we are committed to supporting our students and families throughout this process.
While the schools will remain closed, we encourage everyone to take the following steps to stay prepared for any emergency:
- Prepare for evacuation: Please make sure you have an emergency kit ready with essentials for all family members. Visit Ready.gov for guidance on what to include. Know where you and your family will go in case evacuation becomes necessary, and have a communication plan in place.
- Prepare for power outages: Charge your phones, portable chargers, flashlights, and other important devices. Keep extra batteries on hand and make sure you have a flashlight or headlamp available in case of power loss.
- Stay informed: Keep up with local news and official updates regarding evacuation orders or additional safety information. We also encourage you to register for emergency alerts through NotifyLA.org to receive timely notifications.
For those who are in need of emergency services, here are some important resources:
- To report a power outage: Call 1-800-DIAL-DWP (1-800-342-5397) or visit ladwp.com/outages.
- To report downed trees, mudslides, or road hazards: Use the MyLA311 app, visit myla311.lacity.org, or call 311.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. Any changes to our school closures will be communicated directly to you from Camino Nuevo.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility during this difficult time. Please take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and your neighbors.
Sincerely,
Adriana Abich
