Dear Camino Nuevo Families,
I hope you are all staying safe during these uncertain times. We are writing to inform you that we plan to reopen all campuses on Monday, January 13, 2025. The safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority, and we are closely monitoring the situation. At this time, the air quality and active fires in our communities have been contained enough so that staff and students may return to campus. If anything changes throughout the day, we will update you by 6PM tonight and 6AM tomorrow morning.
We believe that it is important to maintain safety even while our students return to campus. With this in mind, we are planning for the following things:
- Air Quality: Using the highest quality air filters possible to ensure indoor air purity and circulation, and replacing all filters as needed. We will also be replacing all filters when the emergency situation resolves;
- Indoor Play and Meals: Indoor recess filled with play and enrichment so that students continue to grow and play together even when we stay safe indoors;
- Social and emotional well-being: We have prepared mental health resources to support you and your students during this time. We are living through a climate crisis, and it is important to take care of ourselves and each other, even after we return to school and a more normal routine.
- Academic support: We prepared an academic challenge to keep students engaged while our sites were closed. We even have some great prizes for those who were able to complete different aspects of the challenge! We will return back to our rigorous, standards-based classroom learning today and are so excited to see your students back in our classrooms.
Students may have many questions and concerns about what has happened to our city even as we return to some normalcy. I've included a resource with a few tips on ways we can approach these conversations both in the classroom and at home.
How to Talk to Your Children About the California Wildfires and Other Natural Disasters
We are committed to keeping you updated and will continue to share any new information or changes to school closures as they arise. While things have gotten better, the situation with the fires and air quality continues, and we want to remind everyone to prioritize safety. Please stay indoors as much as possible, keep windows and doors closed, and take necessary precautions to protect your health. If you need to go outside, wear a mask and limit your exposure to the smoke.
Stay safe,
Adriana Abich
