Welcome to the Kayne Siart Campus
Since opening in 2010, our school has won many awards for improving educational outcomes for children in Koreatown, MacArthur Park, and other surrounding neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The list of awards includes the Grazer Outstanding Achievement in Learning (GOAL) Award, the California Association of Bilingual Education Seal of Excellence Award, and the Bright Spot Award from the White House. These honors reflect our commitment to educating a diverse population, particularly English language learners and students with special needs.
We believe in fostering a culture of belonging and intellectual engagement for all our students. We are driven by these core values: inclusion, integrity, kindness, perseverance, responsibility and respect. Together, we strive to develop every child’s full potential so that they can succeed in a college-preparatory high school and feel empowered to create positive change in their communities.
We look forward to partnering with you to have a positive impact on our community!

About Kayne Siart
The Kayne Siart Campus is part of the Camino Nuevo Charter Academy network, a community of high-performing charter public schools that prepares and empowers students for success in college and in life.
Our K-8 public charter school serves the children and families of the Koreatown area of Los Angeles. Our comprehensive approach integrates academic rigor, community, family, and wellness supports to empower students to thrive in a culturally connected and changing world. Learn more about our approach.
Our mission is to educate students in a college preparatory program to be literate, critical thinkers, and independent problem solvers who are agents of social justice with sensitivity toward the world around them.
Student-Centered Approach
Our school uses an education model that ensures teachers are meeting the educational needs of all children. Our inclusive practices ensure that students with disabilities receive the same quality instruction as their peers in general education classrooms, with additional supports.
Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles
Our students have access to music instruction during school and after school (up to 18 hours each week) through the YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) program. The program began as an adaptation of Venezuela’s revolutionary El Sistema music education program, but it is now an innovative model in its own right, guiding students and teachers from nearly 100 music programs around the country. Our school has the only in-school and after-school YOLA program in Los Angeles.
Wellness and Mental Health Services
Our wellness and mental health programs offers parent support groups, parenting workshops, student support groups, art classes, English classes, Spanish literacy classes, cooking classes, substance abuse prevention programs, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and teacher training.
After School Program
In partnership with Think Together, our school offers an after-school program with both academic assistance and enrichment activities such as computer training, homework assistance, athletics, and college-preparatory counseling. Tutoring and project-based activities are also offered every school day until 6 pm.

Marina Hernandez
Assistant Principal of Student Supports
|
Marina was born and raised in Los Angeles with roots in the Nahua people of what is today known as Guerrero, Mexico. She was raised by a single mom and a rough-around-the-edges, but loving, Abue (grandmother) and was taught early on that family and community are our most valuable investments. She was taught the power of story-telling and honoring those that came before us by honoring those that will come after us.
Marina graduated from UCLA with a Bachelors of Art’s in Women’s Studies and Public Health. While teaching wasn’t part of her plan, her commitment to youth was made concrete in her first three years of teaching in Miami Northwestern Senior High School. It was there that Marina’s trajectory towards ethnic studies and DEI work began. In an effort to be closer to home, she moved to Oakland, California where she taught 4th grade at Roses in Concrete Community School. Working alongside educators that were fiercely committed to justice and teaching the truth cementented her own commitment to radically supporting students through affinity spaces and identity work. This work brought her back to the highschool level with KIPP Northern California. There, she taught English and co-founded a collective of affinity spaces. It was a labor of love that continues to make an impact on students there. Here, she transitioned to a school-leader position as Dean of Culture.
In her role as APSS with Camino Nuevo, Marina will be supporting both teachers and students in upholding a culture of learning, belonging, and equity. She will oversee Kayne’s school-wide vision for culture and will facilitate PD that supports those efforts. She will also provide coaching for teachers and staff to ensure that they are growing towards inclusive practices that foster a sense of belonging for all students and community members.
